Blog Experiment

Find new readers
and
BOOST YOUR BLOG TRAFFIC!

On October 30, 2009  I wrote a post about wanting to boost traffic to my blog. Earlier this year, I had run an experiment with several other bloggers from the BwhoUR Network to try and boost comments to our blogs.

The feedback from the original blogging experiment was all positive and many participants saw an improvement to the quantities of comments being left on their blogs and they also found some new readers in the process. However, probably the most profound thing that the original blog experiment did was to raise awareness to each blog author about what is really important to each of our blogs.

Some of us realized that it was important to stay on one topic and not try to cover too many topics on one particular blog. Diversity is not always the way to go. This is interesting as I would have thought that by covering several topics, you would appeal to greater audiences. One blogger in particular realized from our first blogging experiment that she had to stay committed to posts about crafts and arts, not going green or gourmet cooking.

Who knew?

Personally, I had a revelation after the experiment. I realized that the purpose of the blog was not to cultivate comments, though they are much appreciated. Having zillions of comments to your site is nice, but it is not the indicator of a successful blog.

A successful blog is successful if:

1) The author feels satisfied in writing it.
~and~
2) The readership (traffic) is booming!

There are more than 1.4 blogs being created EVERY SECOND of EVERY DAY, so imagine how popular the blogosphere has become. However, it is not a saturated market, and a blogger shouldn’t be discouraged that no one reads her blog. She just has to creatively spread the word about her blog so she can attract like-minded people to read!

When I say ‘creative’, I mean free. I know that you can buy ad space, you can spend money marketing and promoting your blog, but let me tell you something:

I can’t afford to do that!

I hope in the future, I will make money from blogging, but so far?

Zilch.

I do it because I love to write, but I’m not going to lie, making money from blogging would sure be nice!

However, one can’t make money blogging without readers.

So… how do you attract more readers? Wait- let me rephrase my question:

How do you attract more readers without spending a penny?

This is the question that I am setting out to answer in the new blog experiment called:

Boost Traffic to Your Blog
(BTTYB)

Yes, I have a plan.

I will give you the details if you wish to participate, but you must meet the criteria. Please read my important Friday post if you haven’t, and leave me a comment here (or there) to indicate your interest.

Details are forthcoming so we can get started and

BOOST YOUR TRAFFIC!
