Brahman, High School Flashbacks, and Tarzan… all in a day at the ranch!

Happy Sunday-
Woke up at 6:40am this morning, refreshed and ready for the day. I stumbled out of our room and made my way to the coffeepot, let the dog out and visited with Honey for awhile. She has been confined to the hall bathroom until Cala learns that she is not a squeak toy to carry around, and until we’re certain that Cala won’t eat her. Cala loves cats but I think this is her first experience with a kitten and she is overly curious. Their size difference is so drastic that I’m somewhat afraid that an overly zealous attempt at ‘playing’ with Honey will result in Honey’s untimely death or at the very least, a bloody kitty cat.
My fears about Cala and the new kitty were confirmed sometime this morning when I let Honey out of her exile and kept close tabs on her as she explored the house. I could hardly keep myself between her and Cala, as Cala was nothing short of obsessed with the itty bitty kitty. Sure enough, the kitty got Cala all excited and she stepped on her and pinned her down. The howl that the cat let out was the equivalent of a blood-curdling scream and it scared Cala, it scared little D, and oh boy, it scared me!
Thankfully she was just fine, but more than a little skiddish after all of the trauma. I scolded Cala, exiled Honey once again, got dressed and headed out of the house for less drama. I decided to check up on the barn and Hubby.
At the barn, I found that we had another foal in the night. Such a sweet baby!
In hunting around for Hubby, I couldn’t find him, so I decided to take more pictures of mares and babies figuring that you just cannot ever possibly have enough shots of newborns. They are so stinkin’ cute!
Don’t you think?
While I captured shots of the horses, little D grabbed a wheelbarrow and did… well, he did something with it. He called it work, but I still haven’t figured out what exactly he was doing. Oh well, it was still fun to watch him drive that thing all over the place. He is always good for a laugh-
After awhile I figured out that Hubby must be on the other side of the ranch with the cattle. I vaguely remembered him saying something about cows this morning, but in my pre-coffee stupor, I am barely coherent so who knew if I was dreaming, but it sounded like a pretty good bet that he’d be at the ’21′ barn.
Sure enough, big D was there!
Seems as if I rolled up right after all the work was done. He thinks I plan it that way, and truthfully I don’t. But it IS awfully coincidental and lucky on my part. Hmph.
While I was at the 21 barn with Big D, I took some shots of the cattle off in the distance…
I captured Little D trying to swing like Tarzan from a tree,
and I grabbed this beauty of a young bull calf that is coming along nicely…
Then… I hopped into the truck with Big D and headed back to the other side…
…the other side of the ranch, that is… not the other side of the rainbow or anything silly like that. Big D doesn’t ‘do’ silly. He is Mr. Serious. Whatever.
Once I got there, I saw that the new stallion from 6666 ranch was turned out, Playgun something-or-another. I can’t remember his name when I look at him because he is just… so… dreamy. I revert back to a pimply teenager, giggly and giddy with excitement watching the cute boys drive by, except now my pimples are wrinkles and I’m gaga over horses, not boys.
Okay, I’m having weird flashbacks now with Boyz II Men songs popping into my head. Must-stay-on-topic! Oh yeh, what were we talking about again?
“…although we’ve come to the End Of The Road, still I can’t let you go…
It’s unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to youuuuuuuuuuuu….”
Ah yes…. him.
Playgun something-or-another….
Aren’t you just the cat’s meow?!?!
Apparently I couldn’t even steady the camera and capture a complete photo of this impressive stallion! Oh well, I think you get the idea. He is something to behold. The Homecoming King. The quarterback of the football team. Most Popular and …. oh gosh…. you get the idea…
