Kudos From a Stranger

I had the nicest thing happen to me last night. I got a phone call that a family friend was coming over and bringing someone that I had never met. No problem, I said, and I quickly re-shuffled my evening plans in my mind. I was within seconds of taking off my work clothes and throwing on some sweats and pulling my hair into a ponytail and scrubbing my makeup off. I grunted and decided to hold off changing my appearance as I figured I better look presentable to receive our guests; you know, good impressions and all of that stuff.

Come to find out, the stranger coming over already had a great impression of me! How, you ask?

HE READS MY BLOG! FAITHFULLY! He even flashed his phone at me to show me that he had a week’s worth of my posts at his disposal.

NO WAY!

Oh gosh, I was thrilled. I was even more thrilled to hear him talk about my blog and how much he enjoys reading it. It was like music to my ears. What a great feeling to know that you are well-received by those reading your thoughts and ideas. I was over the moon.

I asked him to spread the word about my blog to friends and family that he thinks might also be interested. The trouble, he told me, is that I write in English and he is from Venezuela. He reads and speaks English but most of his inner circle do not, and apparently some of my antics don’t translate well into Spanish. I knew this already, which is exactly why I don’t write in spanish.

However, after he and our mutual friend left the house last night, I got to thinking about my blog and how wonderful it felt to hear someone else tell me about my own blog. I remain surprised and perplexed by the positive comments that I have been receiving about my writing. I never in my wildest dreams would have called myself a ‘writer’, but now when I try on that title, it feels darned good.

There is so much that I dream about improving when it comes to this blog. Last night, meeting an unlikely reader, really inspired me. Look for changes coming soon, I’m going to dive in head first and make this site into all that I envision it to be.
