Okay, first of all… Merry Christmas. Today is Christmas Day and I guess it doesn’t really feel like it because, well, remember my post from the other day? We had a big Christmas shindig last night on the 24th. Aside from opening gifts this morning, today has been relatively quiet and non-eventful. Well, except for the gifts.
…and let me tell you…
I received an AMAZING GIFT!
I am typing to you on one of my gifts. Yes, it is a computer, but it is not just a computer…. it is a whopping 27 inch screen MAC that is just about the coolest thing I have ever seen! The screen is enormous, the keyboard is super tiny, and everything is wireless! I am such a typical HP-gal that I am looking in the box for a tower (there isn’t one), a bunch of cords (nope, just one to the power source), and a cord to/from the mouse (nope, silly me). This thing is stream-lined, it has a HUGE screen and it is so cool I can’t quite contain my excitement (you can’t tell, can you!?!?!)
I also got Volume I and Volume 2 of Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Oh my gosh, I read the intro and started to drool. I am in love with french cooking and Julia Child all at the same time. I know I have asked you before, but have you seen Julie & Julia? I started reading Julie Powell’s blog after seeing the movie the first time, and have since fallen off the wagon. I don’t think it is Julie so much that I am enamored with, but the late Julia Child. She inspires me on so many levels. Such a positive spirit! Such a fish out of water (she was 6′2 and especially living in France, was HUGE by comparison to the petite French), yet so confident and eager to make the most out of every minute.
On a bad note, I tried to put on a pair of jeans that I haven’t worn in awhile and I couldn’t get them on. I vowed today (well last week, really, but today I cemented the deal in my mind) that I am going to lose some weight. Starting immediately. One question though:
HOW AM I GOING TO LOSE WEIGHT WHILE COOKING FROM JULIA CHILD’S FRENCH COOKBOOK?
If I can do THAT, man, I can do anything!!!
I’ll let you know how it goes. I have two cookbooks going these days, the Pioneer Woman’s cookbook, that I promised to blog about as I work my way through it in the style of Julie & Julia… I will admit that I haven’t started. With the holiday chaos and people coming and going and my schedule not really being manageable lately, I have had to postpone that idea. I don’t know that I will blog straight through it, nor will I try every recipe. But the ones I try, I will share… I did make Pioneer Woman’s mashed potatoes for Christmas Dinner last night, well, with my own improvements…
I wouldn’t want to totally copy her now, would I?
AS IF!

i am right there w/you on the jeans. something must be done. back to riding the bike daily. i think when i get to texas for the winter i’m joining a gym!
Yes m’am, those were the exact words I said too: SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT THIS! My post today talks more about it!
OMG! Jealous! I want a new computer soooo badly. Would you believe the last gift I opened was Ree’s cookbook? My godmother sent it to me. Some of the recipes were my moms and Ree’s moms so I am already familiar with those. Wish she had given them credit in her book.
