Food Blogging- Ranch Style…

About a week ago, I had a wild hare. Remember back how I was dying to see the movie Julie & Julia? Well, I was, and if you forgot to read that post, it’s right here for the taking…

Anyhooooooo…. the idea that Julie Powell had of blogging her way through Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” was an ingenius one (Child’s book is on my Christmas list by the way, in case any of you are in the giving spirit… hey, it never hurts to ask), and it was such a good idea, I wish I had thought of it myself.

But, alas, I did not.

So instead, I think I’m going to blog my way through another cookbook. This one just hit the market and is making grown women like you and me look like tweens at a Jonas Brother’s concert! The book is Ree Drummond’s, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl.

Hold on a second, I thought I was the accidental country girl? Hmph. Well the truth is that Ree’s story and my own aren’t too different. The differences are, well, that she married a rancher born and bred in Oklahoma and my rancher was born and bred in the Andes Mountains of Venezuela. She channels Ethel Merman and I totally embody Lucille Ball (heck, I’m married to my very own Desi too!) and well, I guess there is that small little discrepency between our blogs too… Let’s see: hers? Well, almost 11 million page views per month puts her a little bit ahead of me, traffic-wise… at least for now.

A girl’s gotta dream big, right?

So this is what I’m planning… I’m going to blog my way through her new book, a la Julie and Julia. Probably not every day, and I’ll going to do it with my own flair, but I have decided to take this new cookbook of The Pioneer Woman, and give it a test drive. I know she has a cult-like following, and I hope I don’t get any death threats or anything super-weird if I tell y’all that I don’t like something or another in the cookbook (yes, other bloggers that have said deragatory things about her blog have said that they’ve received death threats!), because I plan to chronicle the good, the bad, and the ugly…

Now I just have to lay my hands on the actual book. I could go to one of the book signings I guess, and fight my way in with all of the other screaming women and security guards and fanfare that is accompanying her everywhere, but that doesn’t sound very appealing. Guess I’ll stick to Amazon and pick up a copy and get started!

Stay tuned!
