First Date in a Decade…

I haven’t been out on a date since July 30, 1999. That was the day BEFORE my wedding rehearsal and dinner, and since getting married on August 1st of that year, I haven’t gone on a date.

But hubby just called me at work and asked me out on a date for tomorrow night!

Now, it is altogether possible that back a zillion years ago before we had our son, we went out on dates, however, I don’t know for sure. I can’t remember anything at all from my married life before that little bundle of joy was born. Ok, I’m probably exaggerating slightly, but you get the idea.

My point is that my husband and I are guilty of spending way too much time working and doing things that need to be done instead of every now and then doing something just because. Tomorrow has no ‘agenda’ associated with it, it is just a date.

Him- and – me.

We are going to go out for dinner to a restaurant where we’ve never been. The Homestead here in Huntsville gets rave reviews, and I have met the chef now a few times that he has helped the Museum for different functions.

Okay, and I need to confess something… I just wrote in an early paragraph above that the date has no agenda associated with it, but I was lying. I could feel my nose growing like Pinocchio as I typed it and I just can’t lived with myself if I lie to you…

I do indeed have a hidden agenda.

I picked the restaurant because they are also serving a 5-course Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving. Earlier in the month, I expressed to hubby that I would rather go out this year than to cook and he agreed. But as the holiday began to approach, we realized that it was too hard to load up all of the guests and all to drive all the way to Houston; better to stay home. Well, only better if you are on the receiving end of Turkey Dinner. I still have to COOK THE DARNED THING, which, I love to do but I am still recuperating from last year’s feast with 19 guests!

Pause for a moment while I try to get back to reality; for a minute there, I started to break out in a cold sweat remembering last year…

So even though I’m ecstatic about ‘the date’, I am also using this dinner date to test the waters, so to speak. Trying to see if the restaurant will pass Hubby’s inspection as a suitable place to go for Thanksgiving. He is pretty darned picky… which I guess is a nice compliment to my cooking that he would rather eat at home than eat anywhere else, but c’mon now…

KITCHEN’S CLOSED for the holidays!

Wish me luck on our date!

XOXO
