Monday Rambles

Well I got on the treadmill yesterday and walked. No running. The running has been hurting my legs. No, not the muscles, but my veins. The varicose veins are just rearing their ugly heads all over the place and it is actually scaring me. Deep veins on my thighs that shouldn’t rising to the surface. The pounding of the running can’t be good for them, and they told me so by burning something awful.

So I chose to walk.

I was walking and reading. I am trying to finish The Last Symbol by Dan Brown. I was engrossed in the book and walking at a brisk pace, not noticing that I had already walked 25 minutes, and feeling pretty darned good about it when all of the sudden, the treadmill kind of lurched. Well, lurch might not be the perfect word, but the belt that circulates kind of got hitched. Then it smoothed out again.

Then it happened, the hitch-y thing, again. And then I smelled something burning. And then… well, the whole thing just sort of died. It was still on, mind you, but nothing was moving. Just smelling like fire.

I turned it off, unplugged it, and decided that my day of intimacy with the treadmill would come to an abrupt ending.

My husband came home eventually from baling hay and he greased up the treadmill and did some maintenence for me. The poor treadmill has been moved all over the country, lived indoors, outdoors and has never been properly serviced. It is no wonder that it smelled like it was burning, it is due for a nervous breakdown anytime…

So once it was good to go, hubby and son tried it out by turning it on full blast and raising the incline as high as it would go. Then they proceeded to race matchbox cars off of it, and they had the greatest time… It was fun to watch.

I didn’t get back on the darned thing though I plan to do so today after work. Walking and reading might do the trick to keep my brain busy enough to ward off the intense boredom and self-defeating talk that usually keeps my walks/runs short and pitiful. I have half of the book left, let’s see if I can whip it off today after work. Then I will have to find something else to read for tomorrow… guess I better get a quick library card!

Watched two movies last night with hubby. Neither were fantastic, but I enjoyed The Proposal. The other one? Something like Ghosts of Girlfriends Past? I didn’t like that one. I enjoyed the Proposal somewhat, and Sandra Bullock has never looked so beautiful. It was a cute flick, not very deep, but cute.

Hoping to have a good week ahead. The week will be successful if I can manage to eat right, exercise, get the family all clothed and fed, pull off a huge event at work on Thursday night, and take down my exhibit on Friday. Wish me luck-
