Sunday the Day of Res….. Shopping.

Its Sunday, the day of rest.

Well, at least it should be the day of rest, but in my house it is the day of ‘catching up’. This past week I obviously had to work each day, and little D had practice, and yesterday he had 3 games. Yowza. Today is the day of rest AND catch up.

And shopping.

I must make a quick (yeh, right) pilgrammage to Conroe to pick up dog food at Petsmart (that is my official excuse) and also meander through my favorite TJ Maxx.

All of the fun shopping stuff is AFTER I finish cleaning the house (almost there), and catching up on laundry (gettin’ closer). I think I can get it all done.

I have to tell you: posting has become difficult, but it is NOT GOING TO BEAT ME! I am planning in the coming week to post each and every day, either before I start my day at the office, or during my lunch hour. See, my computer here at home (the one I am typing on) is on the verge of collapse. For some weird reason (I should knock on wood), it is behaving quite nicely right now, but this is just a fluke. All last week, it ran slow, it didn’t seem to acknowledge when I typed on its keys, and it was making a deep, gutteral sound that sounded something like a pig giving birth…

I think its about to kick the bucket.

Its not like it hasn’t done me proud, on several occasions, and I really love it. But when I need to dash off a post and its not cooperating, I get good and mad. So, I’m going to post from work for the week ahead and try to form a schedule that works. I miss my writing. I miss my comments (yep, that’s a not-so-subtle-hint!)

Remember me telling you about how my garden is of the abstract-variety? Oh my goodness that is an understatement. It is like a jungle now and it is totally out of control! However, in the past week, I picked 85 tomatoes for myself and made an amazing sauce that I froze part of for later, used some for some pizzas, and more for pasta later in the week. On Thursday I took in another bag (I think there were 28) of more tomatoes to work, combined with some beautiful red and green peppers. Friday I took in a whole bag of peaches. I am the Abstract Gardener. This is kind of like the ‘absent-minded professor’, my garden is a work in progress, no rhyme or reason, and it really looks like a tangled wonderland of nature’s bounty.

I love it.

One reason I absolutely love it is that my husband, who is as regimented and organized as they come, has not stuck his nose into my gardening project. He has allowed me to wreak total havoc on my garden, and his only comments have been congratulatory praise over my beautiful fruits and vegetables. He hasn’t tried to take over my project (amazingly), nor has he tried to offer up any wise advice (doubly amazing), and he hasn’t made any backhanded comments to make me good and mad (wow!). He has been quite excited about my garden and he has sat back and watched it flourish… and I love that.

My sunflowers have really come on strong in the past week. They are straining up high, about 9 feet tall, towering over the corn growing in front of them and standing guard over the whole garden. I love the big, sunny blooms and the hummingbirds they have attracted. I sat outside in the middle of the garden watering everything last night and was graced by the presence of a hummingbird flitting right before my eyes, only about 2 feet in front of me. I stood as still as a statue, she obviously didn’t realize that I wasn’t part of the scenery, and I just enjoyed this special moment with one of God’s most beautiful-and elusive- creatures.

Here are some pics I shot after the hummingbird flew away and I put the hose down…IMG_2993

Have a great week!
